Description

Zofia Stryjenska of the Lubanski family was born on May 13, 1891 in Krakow. She studied at various art schools in Poland and finally at the famous Munich School Of Art where she had to disguise herself as a boy in order to gain admittance. She is best known for her paintings of Polish folk art, costumes and dances. She was an extremely prolific artist, unmatched by any of her contemporaries in the Polish art world. The fact that her work was disseminated on such an unprecedentedly mass scale for the 1920's and 30's in diverse reproductions - luxury albums and portfolios of illustrations. school blackboards, calendars, postcards, packaging and advertising material for the Wedel chocolate and confectionary company - helped to build up and enduring awareness in recipients' minds. This beautiful album shows Zofia Stryjenska's wonderful work with the dynamics of unicorns, colorfulness, rhythm and decorative elements.

Text is in Polish and English.
