The album Lesser Polish Architecture in Wood presents the historic legacy of building in wood preserved in the Voivodeship of Lesser Poland. The photographs in this album display the beautiful architecture of and decorative art in the region's wooden churches, country-town and rural residential buildings, farmer's outhouses and craftsmen's shops, vintage country cottages, inns, tap-rooms and treatment centres in the local health resorts. Most of these edifices may still be admired in their original settings, but a few of the residential and farm buildings have been moved to open-air museums.
These pictures showing the charm locked away in detail, the beauty of wooden buildings blending into the landscapes of Lesser Poland, and the artistry of the craftsmen of bygone times make this album a unique opportunity for a rendezvous with the heritage of Lesser Poland.
The pictures are accompanied by notes on the history of the subjects, along with an introductory essay outlining the history of Lesser Poland and its traditions of building in wood.
There is also a concise bibliography and a glossary of special terms used in the book. The album is published in a fully bilingual, Polish-English edition.
