Easter (Wielkanoc) in Poland is the most devout time of year. The Easter Resurrection day is preceded by weeks of ceremonial preparation. The special food that is blessed at the "Swiecone" on Holy Saturday includes a sugar confection or a cake formed like a lamb (Christ, the Lamb of God) holding the cross of victory over death.
In the old days, a canon was fired during the final, Holy Saturday ceremony at the very moment the priest intoned, "Alleluja". From this act derived the custom of saying, "Wesolego Alleluja" to mean "Happy Easter".
