The Hejnal is played hourly from the tower of St. Mary's Basilica in Cracow. It reminds the townspeople of the dangers the country faced from invaders throughout history. If you are in Poland but not in Cracow you can hear it live each day at noon on Polish radio. It is a national call to arms.
Here we hear it played inside the basilica in four historical variations.
The Cracow Bugle Call - Trumpet
Middle-ages call
Renaissance call
War time call
Performed by Marek Skwarczynski on the trumpet, Marek Stefanski on the organ and musical group Ars Nova.
