Description

This CD contains three versions of the official Polish National Anthem performed during state ceremonies. They are:
1 / orchestral version - Verse 1
2 / orchestral version - 4 verses
3 / version with the text - 4 verses.
The recording is performed by the Choir and National Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Kazimierz Kord.

After regaining independence in 1918, Poland sought to determine which patriotic song should be the national anthem. Ultimately Dabrowski's Mazurka was agreed upon.  On the 15th of October 1926 the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Public Education released the official text of the four stanzas of the hymn.

Mazurka Dabrowski is also known as the Song of the Polish Legions in Italy, the Song of Polish Legionnaires and Poland is not yet dead. The author of the text - Joseph Wybicki was a poet, a diplomat, member of the Bar Confederation and the Kosciuszko Insurrection.  He stayed in Italy, co-organizing and participating in the Polish Legions under General Jan Henryk Dabrowski, acting as a military laison with the army of Napoleon.

In 1797, in Reggio Dell'Emilia in northern Italy, at a ceremony in honor of General Dabrowski and a farewell to the Polish army, which Bonaparte had reassigned, the hymn was first performed and dedicated to General Dabrowski and his legionnaires.   Since then, the song was adopted by the Polish Legions.  The anthem is associated with subsequent national uprisings and in 1926 became the national anthem.
Patriotic songs fill the second part of the disc, from the years of struggle for independence - with their subsequent uprisings.
The CD was produced for the 90th anniversary of the regaining of independence by Poland.
