This is a selection of more than a hundred works of a well-known and respected photographer and pedagogue Marian Schmidt, presented earlier at the exhibition in the House of Meetings with History. Most of the photos come from 1974 - 1978 and constitute an interesting testimony of the Gierek era. Others, created in the following decades, perfectly complement this collection. The photographer does not stop, however, only on a simple observation, creating a document or an epoch, but he portrays life in Poland in the 1970s extremely truthfully and intimately. There are photos in this collection that move our unconscious layers of emotions.
The photos come from the author's rich archive. Among the presented photographs is a communist everyday reality (sometimes shown in a non-obvious way), along with sublime, romantic photographs and psychological portraits of people. Schmidt creates a timeless story about human life and condition. It is a humanistic photography that reaches deep into the soul. The artist also makes a dialogue with the young generation of Poles who do not remember the times of the Polish People's Republic: queues in front of shops, May Day parade, intrusive propaganda of success. Inside Poland to wybór przeszło stu prac znanego i cenionego fotografa oraz pedagoga Mariana Schmidta, prezentowanych wcześniej na wystawie w Domu Spotkań z Historią. Większość zdjęć pochodzi z lat 1974?1978 i stanowi interesujące świadectwo epoki Gierka. Inne, powstałe w kolejnych dziesięcioleciach, znakomicie uzupełniają ten zbiór. Fotograf nie zatrzymuje się jednak wyłącznie na prostej obserwacji, stworzeniu dokumentu czy obrazu epoki, ale portretuje życie w Polsce lat 70. niezwykle prawdziwie i intymnie. Są w tej kolekcji zdjęcia, które poruszają w nas nieuświadomione pokłady emocji.
Zdjęcia pochodzą z bogatego archiwum autora. Wśród prezentowanych fotografii jest peerelowska siermiężna codzienność (pokazana niekiedy w sposób nieoczywisty), a obok tego wysublimowane, nastrojowe fotografie i psychologiczne portrety ludzi. Schmidt tworzy bowiem ponadczasową opowieść o życiu i kondycji człowieka. To fotografia humanistyczna, która sięga w głąb duszy. Artysta nawiązuje również dialog z młodym pokoleniem Polaków, którzy nie pamiętają czasów Peerelu ? kolejek przed sklepami, pochodów pierwszomajowych, nachalnej propagandy sukcesu, ale ciekawi ich doświadczenie poprzednich pokoleń
