Description

Winged Hussars is an exceptional album. Similarly rich iconographic material, showing the hussars and their gear, dating from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries has never been collected before. It shows the true appearance of the hussars in the era before the 19th century illustrators falsified their image.
This album contains numerous descriptions of this force, also never before collected in a single volume, all dating from the period when the hussar troops were in existence. They describe not only the appearance, but also the customs, tactics and organization of the force. In addition, these texts reveal how the hussars were perceived in Europe; it is evident that from the late 16th until the late 17th century they were seen as the best, the most effective, and also the most beautiful cavalry in the world.
Source texts are given in the original version and translated into three languages: Polish , English and French; this will hopefully serve to spread the fame of the Polish hussar force worldwide.
