„Barykada” in Polish language only.

Author: Walerian Domanski writes:

The Warsaw Uprising in 1944, after 63 days ended in failure. What's worse, the losses of the Polish side were enormous. 150 thousand to 200 thousand people civilians and 15 thousand insurgents were killed! For one dead German 200 Poles were killed. In addition, Warsaw was destroyed in 70%. Still there is no reasonable answer on the question:

“Why uprising lasted so long if after a week were killed 40,000 residents of Warsaw?”
Undoubtedly, the fall of the Uprising was not just only a defeat, but a great tragedy.
No wonder that an increasing number of historians believe that the uprising was unnecessary.

Impressed by the tragedy of Warsaw uprising I decided to write the following collection of short stories. Before I start writing I have read several books about the Warsaw Uprising;

1. "Soldiers of Old Town" The memories of battle – by Captain Ognisty”.
2. "Gustav"-"Harnaś" - two insurgent battalions" – by Robert Bielecki.
3. "March through Hell" - by StanislawPodlewski.
4. "Rhapsody Żoliborska" – by Stanislaw Podlewski.
5. "Mokotów 1944” by Lesław M. Bartelski.

Reading, whether memories of Commander Captain Ognisty, memories written by Bartelski or memories of numerous insurgents written by Stanisław Podlewski, I tried to imagine the described events. Sometimes in my written stories I kept strictly to the events described, and “improved” only these events to be a literary work; adding imaginary dialogues and descriptions of people and landscaping etc. But sometimes I created completely new stories, not related to the real facts.

An example of the first group of stories can be a stories "Attack," "Captain Jesus" or "Old Town attacks", the second group ones include such stories as "Barricade", "I am against", "Life is not worth s_ _t" or "Lice"

Similarly, sometimes I kept real names and sometimes I set fictitious names.

I could compare my work to the work of a painter who sometimes paints the person sitting in front of him and sometimes paints from imagination.

In many stories, in turn, we don’t know how much is truth and how much imagination. They are a mixture of facts and imagination. It happened that I started writing the story that is consistent with the facts and in the process of writing came to me "crazy" ideas to change to fantasy.

For sure it is not certainly a historical book; it is a fiction stories about the Warsaw Uprising of 1944; total of 70 short stories.
