Description

Stefania Gurdowa (1888-1968) Polish artist photographer from the period between the World Wars. Gurdowa remained completely unknown to the general public until a box of glass negatives signed with her name were found bricked up in the attic of one of the tenement houses in Dębica - a small town in southern Poland. Most of these negatives contain vivid portraits of anonymous people who lived in the neighbourhood in the interwar period. The black and white portraits presented here in this album were taken in the 1920's and 30's by a woman who owned her own photographic studio, something that was quite remarkable in those days.  In 2008 the first exhibition of her work was presented to the public in Krakow. We think you will enjoy both her story and her works in this album.
Published in conjunction with an exhibition at Muzeum Etnograficzne, Kraków, May 9-31, 2008.

Jedna ze stu najlepszych książek roku według jurorów The Best Photography Book Award.
