Description

"Proza Domanskiego charakteryzuje sie prostota jezyka i niejednokrotnie zaskakujaca trescia. Humor, satyra i tragizm czestokroc sasiaduja zgodnie obok siebie. Fantazja i fakty sa tu zmieszane, dajac wszakze interesujaco wierny zapis odleglych i dzis juz egzotycznych czasow poczatkow komunizmu w Polsce. Autor trafnie uwypukla absurdy owczesnego zycia, wobec ktorych zwykly czlowiek stawal wtedy bezradny.

This is the second collection of short stories in English by Walerian Domanski, after “The Dog called Hitler.” In his stories, the author presents the effect of the dilettante Communist government in Poland from the perspective of the common citizens. Both those who naively believed in the bright future promised by Communism and the avowed opponents of the ideology were sentenced to a gray, depressing life, with the never ending task of finding ways to outwit the nonsensical bureaucracy. They were sentenced to a life of poverty, without any hope of improving their fate. In these finely crafted stories, tragic situations collide with humor, satire, dramatic, and even grotesque events. They are written in simple language, without stylistic frills. Humor, satire, and dramatic events. Must read! Polish Language Only.
