Description

Pictures of an outstanding photographer of Warsaw, who documented the post-war transformations of the city and the everyday life of Varsovians. Siemaszko photographed Warsaw at a time when the pace of rebuilding the city after the devastation of the war was overwhelming, and at the same time you could feel a breath of new energy after the years of Stalinism. In his photos, Warsaw is a city that comes to life, is dynamic and teeming with life. The choice of topics and conscious aestheticization make up the vision of Warsaw in the 1950s and 1960s, which from today's perspective is very attractive and appealing.
The photos show new districts, modernist buildings, newly opened cafes and shops (including Konstytucji Square, Muranów housing estate, Central Department Store, Supersam, Gdańsk railway station, buildings of the railway cross-city line, including the Warszawa Powiśle station, glazed pavilions at the junction Marszałkowska and Aleje Jerozolimskie) or neon signs appearing more and more often as a sign of a modern city, as well as cars and buses, small architecture, equipment for shops and apartments, i.e. the design of the time, which is becoming fashionable again today.
