An ancient Slavonic custom to welcome the forthcoming spring called "Maik" or "Nowelatko" (New Summer). It consists of carrying a sappy tree, trimmed with ribbons and tinsel, through the village on the Tuesday after Easter, at Pentecost or at the beginning of May. The participants of that festivity, mostly children and girls, walked from one farmhouse to another, wishing good luck and singing occasional songs.
