Painting on glass is a popular Polish form of folk art by which the artist paints a picture on the reverse side of a glass surface.
On St. John's Eve, Polish girls weave flowers and herbs into exquisite wreaths with a lighted candle in the center. These are cast into the nearby river. According to tradition, the prettier the wreath the more handsome will be the girl's future husband. If her wreath is caught be a young man, the girl will marry soon; however if it is not captured or sinks, she will not get a husband that year.
