Photographs by Wojciech Krynski and Jan Morek
Within the seven centuries of its existance, the Warsaw Castle has served major state functions as, successively, the residence of the Mazovian Dukes, the official royal residence of successive rulers of the Commonwealth of Two Nations (the Polish and the Lithuanian), the seat of Parliament and the residence of the President of the Polish Republic. It has always been one of the major centres of the country's cultural and artistic life. In Polish collective consciousness, it has always functioned as the symbol of the state and its sovereignty, as well as a national Pantheon of sorts - the place where acts and merits of the country's most illustrious citizens have been officially honoured.
This beautiful album features photos of the interior and exterior of the castle and the royal treasures inside. There are also shown many historical paintings of the castle. |
