The Sudetan Mountains!  I've always had trouble with determining the size and location of this land.  I find its political connotations an obstruction - The Sudetans (Sudetan in German) used to be mentioned in connection with territories to the west and south of Poland, and the difficult relations between the Czechs and Germans.  For us Poles, these hilly parts of Lower Silesia -- our very own Sudetan Mountains - are a land of great natural beauty, with a fascinating past and an extraordinary material heritage in the form of towns, spas, historic monuments and a rich flora and fauna.
