The Polish wedding couple pictured here are dressed in traditional wedding outfits representative of the reagion of Lowicz. The bride is gloriusly crowned with flowers, and the bridegroom dressen in his Sunday best.
They are encircled with symbols of birds for love, pears for fertility, wheat for abundance and carnations for good forturne; The circle, like their wedding rings, symbolizes their eternal union.
The greeting, "Sto Lat" is a traditional Polish wish of congratulations mixed with the sentiment that the marriage may last 100 years!
The origianal art work, created by Stella Dernoga Hazard, is done in the traditional Polish folk art method called 'wycinanka' or paper cutting. Every element of the artwork is cut out of pieces of colored paper and pasted into place.
