Stanisław Wyspiański was one of the most distinguished Polish Modernist artists. Comprehensively talented in literature and the fine arts, this visionary and historiosopher wrote a cycle of plays on national themes which have earned a permanent place in Polish repertoires. His work in the visual arts launched a new era in Polish art history. It included monumental painting (church murals and stained glass), easel painting (portraits and landscapes), and applied art (interior design, artistic printing and graphic design). He was a master of the pastel technique. He designed stage sets and costumes for his own plays. He was involved in conservation projects for the murals and windows of Cracovian churches. He designed the Wawel - Akropolis restoration project for Wawel Hill. The works contained in the album are mostly from the rich collection of the National Museum in Cracow.
