The sitting Christ, supporting his head with his hand and crowned with thorns, is a common theme in Polish folk art.   Around the country they are frequently found in wayside shrines and are a symbol of Poland's historic suffering at the hands of its neighbors as well as its dedicaton to its religious heritage.
