Description

The Polish poster, alongside the Swiss poster, holds a paramount place in the contemporary history of this field of the arts and its development after the Second World War.  It flourished especially in the years 1956-1963, known as the period of the Polish Poster School, when Polish artists achieved the top position the field worldwide, and still retain today.
These examples attest to the assertion made at the opening of this text, that there was no uniform style in the "Polish poster school."  Indeed, Tomaszewski often called the "father" of the Polish poster school denied its very existance but acknowledged that perhaps the Polish poster's major contribution to the graphic arts was its sense of "suggestion" to the viewer, by means of a far-reaching conceptual abbreviation based on association or metaphors.

In this album we show what Polish artists have achieved in the most recent, extremely interesting, but not yet so well-known period, in the years following the socio-political turning-point of 1989.  All of these posters were out in the streets, some for a short time, some longer, but that's poster life.

Present-day Polish posters since 1989, the best works and the most interesting artists. Introduction by Krzysztof Dydo.
