The combination of crude folk singing with the refined sound of the violas da gamba and other early folk instruments is designed here to refer to the European tradition and to place the enchanting Polish carols within that very noble tonal context. The sound of music which could be heard in Elizabethan England or at the court of the Vasas at the Royal Castle in Warsaw has been interrupted here by the Balkan flute, Vilno dulcimer, Asian khen, beggar hurdy-gurdy, Indian bells and last but not least by Polish folk singing. We are using these contrasts to express our fascination with the beauty of our native carols. Words to all the carols are included with the CD.
