The book presents collections of works of art, valuable objects and memorabilia amassed in Gdansk, and connected with the artistic, political and commercial past of the town. At present these exhibits are displayed in a number of local museums: The National Museum, The Archaeological Museum, The Central Maritime Museum, The Historical Museum of Gdansk, which store examples of Flemish, Dutch, Italian, German and Polish art - paintings, sculptures, graphics, and the crafts - making them available to visitors. Professor Teresa Grzybowska, an expert on the art of Gdansk, offers a thorough description of the imposing heritage of five centuries. 117 color illustrations comprise a survey of the most important works in the Gdansk collections.
