Marian Hemar (1901 - 1972) - An unusual figure. Even in the times when his name was absent from Polish reference books due to his banishment from artistic life in post WWII Poland for political reasons, his songs - like "Remember Me" or "When the lilacs bloom again" - were commonly known and willingly hummed. It was only in 1987 that a show entitled "Hemar: Songs and poems" premiered in Warsaw. This spectacle revived the climate of the wise and graceful songs, which combine simplicity with humor and incredible finesse.
Poet - writer, satirist, stage director composer and translator Hemar wrote the texts of more than two thousand songs, which were performed by the great legends of the stage. Marian Hemar had the knack of beautifully fusing tears with a smile. This album opens with a song about Warsaw and closes with one about Lwow - in Hemar's life, these were the two most important cities to him.
