One Polish method of decorating eggs employs the use of bullrush pith and colored yarn. These eggs are known as "wyklejanki." Bullrushes are woody plants which grow well in very damp soils. These plants are gethered in early spring from swamp lands. They are then split lengthwise and the pith center removed. These pith strips are then take and dried and can be used in future decorations. The pith strips are then wrapped in a damp cloth and when pliable, they can be glued onto a hollow egg. Colored yarns are also incorporated into the design. Many beautiful patterns can be produced by this method and can create an unusual texture. These eggs are most common in the region of Poland called Kurpie.
