The Polanes, although mentioned in the cronicles of Ibrahim Ibn Jakub, author of the first reliable description of the Polish state ruled Mieszko I. (10th century) it wasn't untill 966 that Otto I or Otto the Great, Holy Roman Emperor affermed the ducal title held by the Polanes leader Mieszko I.
