1940 Academy Award-Nominated Newsreel. Original film footage of the Siege of Warsaw shot by American photojournalist Julien Bryan, the last neutral journalist remaining in Warsaw during September 1939. He survived two weeks of devastating bombardment - risking his life over and over again to record this unprecedented new form of warfare - Blitzkrieg, Adolf Hitler's "Lightening War" - and the agony and bravery of the city's civilian population under the merciless German attack.
The negative for Siege is lost; for decades it was thought that the only surviving copies of this rare footage were a handful of seldom seen, poor quality 16-mm prints. However, recently a 35-mm print of Siege was discovered in Julien Bryans personal archive of film footage, and has now been lovingly restored.
