"Wooden Churches of the former Eastern Galicia" is the first volume of a series, which will publish selected photographs from the collection of treasured photo library of the Institute of Art History at the Jagiellonian University, one of the oldest photographic archives of historical and artistic profile of the Polish lands (founded in 1884). The book has two academic essays by Peter Krasny and Wojciech Walanus: the first is an introduction to the problems of historical, artistic and conservation of wooden churches in the lands of the Eastern Rite of the Republic, the second presents a brief history of our library collection, the circumstances of the photographs presented in this volume, and profiles of their authors. The main part of the book is an album of one hundred sixteen reproductions of archival prints on which such appearance over seventy churches, usually no longer existing or converted. Album accompanied by a catalog, in which they were the most important historical facts about each building (with a basic bibliography) and detailed information about photos (technology, dimensions, dating, authorship, inscriptions, signs of ownership, etc.). Książka Cerkwie drewniane dawnej Galicji Wschodniej jest pierwszym tomem serii, w której publikowane będą wybrane, najcenniejsze fotografie ze zbiorów Fototeki Instytutu Historii Sztuki Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego, jednego z najstarszych archiwów fotograficznych o profilu historyczno-artystycznym na ziemiach polskich (rok założenia 1884). Tom zawiera dwa naukowe eseje, autorstwa Piotra Krasnego i Wojciecha Walanusa: pierwszy jest wprowadzeniem w problematykę historyczno-artystyczną i konserwatorską drewnianych świątyń obrządku wschodniego na ziemiach Rzeczypospolitej, drugi przedstawia pokrótce dzieje zbiorów Fototeki, okoliczności powstania zaprezentowanych w tomie fotografii oraz sylwetki ich autorów. Zasadniczą częścią książki jest album ze stu szesnastoma reprodukcjami archiwalnych odbitek, na których utrwalono wygląd ponad siedemdziesięciu cerkwi, przeważnie już nie istniejących lub przekształconych. Albumowi towarzyszy katalog, w którym zostały podane najważniejsze fakty historyczne dotyczące poszczególnych budowli (wraz z podstawową bibliografią) oraz szczegółowe informacje o fotografiach (technika, wymiary, datowanie, autorstwo, inskrypcje, znaki własnościowe itd.).
